Working closely with MAS, we've created a digital reading experience for their magazine OnMAS. The tricky part? Ensuring the content maintained the exclusivity and mana of their printed member magazine but in online form.
Medical Assurance Society (MAS) is a membership-based insurance and investment company for New Zealand’s professionals. Founded by doctors in 1921, and with over 37,000 members, they are one of NZ's largest insurance providers.
MAS creates amazing content for their magazine onMAS, and the goal of the digital onMAS was to gain more mileage from their content marketing investment while building better member engagement. To do this, MAS needed a new website for their OnMAS magazine content to live. The new site needed to blend the best of print with the best of digital. As well as designing something beautiful, we needed to make sure that the task of building out the magazine in the CMS was simple to avoid confusing content editors.
We designed customisable templates that replicated key sections from the print magazine such as an editor’s note, cover stories, sections, and topics. We then drilled down into the different content blocks that can be used to build an article to make sure fonts, images, and colour could be customised.
In the CMS we made sure page templates and content blocks were clearly labelled with supporting icons so that content editors can easily know what they are creating. Using a digital medium allowed us to introduce the ability for members to bookmark and share their favourite articles with family and friends.
“It’s great to have so many more options to bring our magazine content to life while at the same time saving trees. We’ve had amazing feedback from online readers who enjoy being able to bookmark interesting articles and directly share relevant content with their friends online.”
